Women’s Hockey drops series finale against No. 8 Minnesota Duluth

The Bulldogs earned the series sweep over St. Thomas, defeating the Tommies 5-1 on Saturday night

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team hosted Minnesota Duluth for game two of the weekend series. Duluth scored three second period goals to defeat the Tommies in the series finale. 
 
RECAP
The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs opened scoring once again in game two, scoring the first of the game at the midpoint of period one.
 
With less than three minutes to play in the opening frame, Brieja Parent scored the equalizer to send the teams into the first intermission tied at 1-1. Parent scored her second of the season finishing a rebound in front of the net, assisted by Maddy Clough and Maddie Brown.
 
Duluth took the lead once again at the 14:24 mark of the second period, scoring its second of the game.
 
At the 5:42 mark of the second period, the Tommies were sent to the box for interference, putting the Bulldogs on the power play. Duluth capitalized on this opportunity and scored its third goal of the game with the player advantage.
 
With just over two minutes remaining in the second period, the Bulldogs extended their lead to 4-1 and took a three-goal advantage into the final period of the weekend.
 
Early in the third period St. Thomas went back on the penalty kill, successfully defending the Bulldog power play and allowing only one shot on goal.
 
Duluth added one goal in the final minute of play and earned the series sweep over St. Thomas, defeating the Tommies 5-1 on Saturday night.
 
Calla Frank recorded 13 saves in the final 20 minutes, and 27 in total tonight.
 
TOMMIE TIDBITS
· Tonight's game marked Abby Promersberger's 100th game played.
· Allie Monrean hit the 100 DI games played milestone, and set a new program record in total games played for St. Thomas, skating in 134 games.
· After recording 27 saves on the night, Calla Frank has totaled 1990 saves in her collegiate career and is 10 away from 2000.

The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team will travel to Columbus to face the top ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.
