Tommies fall in tight battle with Mavericks

Boerger leads the way with a goal and assist
ST. PAUL, MIINN. - St. Thomas Women's Hockey (12-21-1, 7-20-1) battles the No. 15 Minnesota State (15-17-2, 9-17-2) in 4-3 overtime loss.
Scoring Summary:
First Period: The Mavericks scored the lone goal on a powerplay at the 13-minute mark to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
Second Period: Rylee Bartz got the Tommies on the board also at the 13-minute mark to knot the game at one a piece. She was assisted by Ella Boerger and Cailin Mumm. It was back and forth battle and the Tommie defense stepped up on the penalty kill late in the period to keep the game knotted at one.
Third Period: The third period was a big one as there were four goals scored between the two squads. Minnesota State scored the first two goals of the period, the first coming off a power play that carried over from the second. The Mavericks went up 3-1 before the Tommies stormed back. Whitney Horton made it 3-2 at the 9-minute mark, and Ella Boerger knotted the game at 3 with just eight seconds left.
Overtime: Minnesota State scored the game winner with just 20 seconds left in the five-minute overtime.
