The Tommies are set for a WCHA series against the Buckeyes

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team travels to Ohio for a WCHA series against the No. 1 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. Puck drop is set for 5:00 p.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 16th and 2:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 17th at OSU Ice Rink.

 Last Time Out
Last weekend, St. Thomas faced off against No. 8 Minnesota Duluth. The Tommies were swept by the Bulldogs, falling by scored of 4-1 and 5-1.
 
Scouting the Buckeyes
The top-ranked Ohio State Women's Hockey program (26-2-0, 23-1-0 WCHA) is led by Head Coach Nadine Muzerall in her seventh season.
 
Recording 35 points in 28 games played, the Buckeyes offense is led by Hannah Bilka (12G, 23A). Three Buckeyes have recorded over 30 points for Ohio State so far this season.
 
Amanda Thiele and Raygan Kirk have both seen action in net in 15 games. Thiele has posted a 1.57 GAA and .910 SV% so far this season. Kirk has recorded a 1.02 GAA and.948 SV%. The duo has combined for eight shutouts so far this season.
 
Milestones
· Saturday's game against Duluth marked Abby Promersberger's 100th game played.
· Allie Monrean hit the 100 DI games played milestone against the Bulldogs, and set a new program record in total games played for St. Thomas, skating in 134 games.
· After recording 27 saves last weekend, Calla Frank has totaled 1990 saves in her collegiate career and is 10 away from 2000.
·Juniors, Maddie Jurgensen (99 GP), Maddy Clough (98 GP) are on the horizon to hit 100 games played in Purple.
 
Record Breakers
The Tommies have set a DI era scoring record, totaling seven goals in a single game twice this season. 16 skaters have scored goals for the Tommies, led by freshman Ella Boerger, who has found the back of the net 10 times. Boerger's 10 goals have also set a record of goals scored in a single season.
 
In 31 games played, Bartz (8G, 11A – 19P) and Boerger (10G, 11A– 21P) have passed the DI single season record in points scored for the Tommies.  The previous record was 13 total points set by Maddy Clough (2022-23 season) and Abby Promersberger (2021-22 season).
 
Bartz, Boerger, and Maddy Clough have also surpassed the single season record in assists (previously 8), and Bartz has tied record for power play goals scored in a single season (3).  
 
Offensive Growth
The Tommies have scored 61 goals throughout 31 games of the 2023-24 season, while the Purple totaled 53 through 36 games just last season.
 
The Purple have faced non-conference opponents Franklin Pierce, Lindenwood, Cornell and Harvard. In four games played, the Tommies have outshot non-conference opponents 225-115 and outscored opponents 25-16.   
 
This season, the Tommies have scored 14 power play goals. Last season the Tommies scored eight on the power play, and recorded 11 with the player advantage during the in 2021-22 season.
 
Freshmen Making an Impact
Four of six of the Purple's top point-scorers are Tommie Hockey newcomers. Ella Boerger (10G, 11A – 21P), Rylee Bartz (8G, 11A - 19P), Maddie Brown (5G, 7A – 12P) and Ellah Hause (5G, 5A – 10P) help lead the Tommies so far this season.
 
D-Side
The purple defense continues to make an impact not only in the defensive zone, but offensively as well. Junior defender, Nicole Vallario has recorded career-high 13 points (5G, 8A) in 31 games played.
 
Junior captain, Maddy Clough leads the Tommies both on and off the ice. Clough has totaled 10 points (1G, 9A) and recorded the shootout winner over Bemidji State on Jan. 26.
   
Defensively, Ellah Hause leads the team and T-6th in the WCHA in blocked shots, blocking 56 shots in 31 games played.
 
Schedule Talk    
The Tommies have been road warriors during the back half of the season, playing 10 of their final 14 games away from the comforts of Mendota Heights, Minnesota. St. Thomas opened 2024 with three consecutive road games against the Badgers and Huskies before returning home against St. Cloud State on January 20. The Tommies will also host Minnesota-Duluth (February 9-10) and the Mavericks (February 24) in the final month of the regular season.
