Family:
Macy says she is extremely lucky that her family is three of her best friends, but also a rock in life. She appreciates the unconditional support they give her while also keeping her laughing 24/7. Her family consists of her father Bob(Hatmandu), her mom Julie and her younger sister Jaya. Macy’s dad is a retired high school digital photography teacher, who now keeps himself busy with cooking, building random objects and strategizing his fantasy football and hockey teams. Her mom is an elementary third grade teacher and she also is the Assistant Basketball Coach for her old high school program. Their favorite TV show to watch together is Bachelor in Paradise. And her sister Jaya is a senior in high school who plays tennis and basketball. She is one of the goofiest people around which is why they get along so well!
What did you do this summer?
Even with COVID-19 disrupting much of their lives, this summer was still very enjoyable. She spent a lot of time with her family. They played more card games than she can count, and Macy stays undefeated in bags! She accepted an internship offer at East Ridge High School as a summer strength coach and was guiding and teaching the student athletes in their workouts. Weekends were spent with some great friends on the lake, and the weeks were also busy with team workouts.
What advice do you have for future Tommie Basketball players:
Macy says if you want it, go get it! Everyone says that they want to be great, but few put in the hours and the work to achieve greatness. Invest yourself in what you love, and the work will always pay off. Oh, and have fun playing the game you love with the people you love.
What is career ambition or dream job:
After Macy graduates, she wants to pursue a career in strength and conditioning. Future ideal spots are Royalty Sports Performance or the University of St. Thomas working with a collegiate team.
What is your favorite vacation spot/future destination: Banff National Park
Who is your favorite athlete: Allyson Felix/Anthony Davis
Do you have any notable or unique talents or hobbies: She can do a backward somersault while spinning a basketball. She also used to be a part of the Alexandria Aces.
Who inspires you or who is your role model? Why?
Both of Macy’s parents are her biggest role models. Her dad has fought stage 4 prostate cancer since she was in high school and has continuously had the most positive and optimistic attitude of anyone Macy has ever seen. It inspires her to always keep her life in perspective and to know that there is no obstacle that can hold her back. Her mom is her other role model because of the way she cares and gives to everyone around her. She is the most unselfish person Macy knows, and never questions to help those around her. This has inspired Macy to give back to the female athletes that follow her footsteps and to always show care to the ones that she loves.
