2011 Season…Highly talented left handed hurler who emerged as one of the more dependable starters for the Tommies down the stretch in 2011. Finished first season with an impressive 3-1 record, 3.66 earned run average, one complete game shutout while tying for third on the staff with 39.1 innings pitched and finishing second in strikeouts with (38). Opponents batted just .255 against him in eight starts. Posted perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 17 defensive chances. Made first collegiate start in Auburndale, Florida on (3/21/11) against Washington and Jefferson College working five solid innings allowing only five hits, two earned runs and recording eight strikeouts in a no-decision. Picked up first collegiate win in dramatic fashion shutting out regional foe Bethany Lutheran on (4/18/11) at the Koch Diamond working seven innings scattering seven hits while allowing no runs and striking out eight in the Tom’s 6-0 win. It was the first complete game shutout by a Tommie freshman hurler since John Licht shutout Stevens Point in the NCAA Midwestern Regional on (5/15/09). Picked up first MIAC win against Concordia on (4/26/11) working six shutout innings with four strikeouts while allowing only two hits. Only loss of the year came during the opening of the NCAA Regional Tournament against the eventual Midwest champ UW-Whitewater. Took the tough luck loss despite an outstanding performance working six solid innings allowing just four hits, three earned runs and striking out three. Will be one of the Tommies primary starters entering the 2012 season.
High School...2010 Chaska High School Graduate. All Lake Conference Performer as a senior. Posted 1.08 ERA and .92 WHIP during playoffs to knockout #3 Tonka and #4 Mankato West as a senior. Started 10 games for the Hawks in 2010 and led the squad in wins (4), innings pitched (48), strikeouts (54) and 8.22 K/9.
Personal...Son Chris and Maribeth Franz...Majoring in Mechanical Engineering...Grandfather and Father, Chris, graduated from the University of St. Thomas.
