Stenslie scores in overtime to defeat the Huskies
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's hockey team hosted the No. 11-ranked St. Cloud State Huskies in the series finale. With the game knotted at 1-1 through 60 minutes, St. Thomas (8-18-2, 5-16-1 WCHA) defeated St. Cloud State (13-10-5, 8-10-4 WCHA) in overtime on Saturday afternoon.
RECAP
It was a scoreless 37 minutes to begin play in Mendota Heights. Breaking the ice, Ella Boerger tallied the game's first goal with just over three minutes to go in the second period. Boerger's goal was her third in the last three games.
Holding the one-goal advantage, the Tommies took the 1-0 lead into the final period of the weekend.
Midway through the final period, the Huskies evened the score. With neither squad able to find the go-ahead goal, the game was sent to overtime. In the Tommies' fifth overtime against a nationally ranked opponent this season, Lauren Stenslie ended the game just 30 seconds into the frame.
Dani Strom faced 33 shots and made 32 saves Saturday, her 13th 30+ save performance this season.
