Women’s Hockey on the road for series against #2 Ohio State

The Tommies travel to Columbus for Friday, Saturday series against the Buckeyes

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team is on the road for a series against the #2 Ohio State Buckeyes. Puck drop is set for 5:00 p.m. CT on Feb. 7 and 12:00 p.m. CT on Feb. 8 at OSU Ice Rink.

Last Weekend Recap
St. Thomas women's hockey split the weekend series with #11 St. Cloud State.
 
After falling 5-2 on Friday, the Tommies earned a 2-1 win in overtime over the Huskies on Saturday.
 
Head Coach Bethany Brausen
The University of St. Thomas Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Phil Esten announced Bethany Brausen as the next head coach of the Tommie women's hockey program.
 
Brausen brings a wealth of experience to the head coaching roll, serving as St. Thomas top assistant, active head coach and interim head coach since joining the program in 2021.
 
As the interim head coach in 2024-25, Brausen led the Tommies to their first sweep of a top-5 opponent, upending the #4 Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs.
 
Scouting the Buckeyes
The #2 Ohio State Buckeyes are coming off a weekend split against Minnesota. The Buckeyes fell in game one, responding with a 7-3 win on Saturday.
 
Joy Dunne leads the Ohio State offense, recording 38 points (17G, 21A) in 30 games played. In net, Amanda Thiele has recorded a 2.07 GAA and .894 SV%, posting a 13-5-2 overall record.
 
History Against Ohio State
The Buckeyes hold a 14-0 record against the Tommies, including a 6-0 record at OSU Ice Rink.
 
Last time out, the two teams went to overtime, with the Buckeyes defeating St. Thomas 1-0 on Nov. 2.

Newest Member of Tommie Hockey
Junior goaltender, Maddie Mootz has joined the Tommie Hockey roster. The Buffalo, Minn. native competed on the St. Thomas club hockey team before joining the program. Mootz will wear #35 for the Purple.
 
WCHA Leaders
  • Through 28 games played, Ellah Hause ranks second in the WCHA in blocked shots (72).
  • Rylee Bartz leads the Tommies and ranks seventh in the WCHA in face-off wins (256).
  • Dani Strom leads WCHA goaltenders in total saves (671).

WCHA Pre-Season Poll
Tommie Women's Hockey was picked to finish sixth in the eight-team WCHA preseason poll, voted on by league head coaches.

Last season's national runner-up Wisconsin was selected among league head coaches to win the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's 2024-25 regular season title. The top four teams in the poll qualified for the NCAA Tournament last year.
