Vallario, Hause and Promersberger score for the Tommies in Friday night’s game

Mendota Heights, Minn. -- The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team continued their streak of home games this weekend, hosting No. 1 Wisconsin on Friday evening.

After trailing by two early, the Tommies battled back to tie the game twice, but ultimately fell to the top-ranked Badgers, 5-3.

RECAP
There were four goals scored in the opening period at St. Thomas Ice Arena on Friday evening. The Badgers found the first two goals of the night, notching their first at the nine minute mark of the first period, and scoring their second five minutes later.

Shortly after Wisconsin extended their lead, the Tommies were called for hooking at found themselves on the penalty kill for the first time in the game. However, a minute into their powerplay the Badgers were caught with too many players on the ice and sent to the box.

Playing 4-on-4 hockey, Nicole Vallario recorded the Tommies first goal of the night and her third of the season off a back door pass by Ella Boerger.

With under 30 seconds remaining in the first frame and on the power play, the Tommies had an offensive zone face-off. Brieja Parent won the draw, leading to a goal by Ellah Hause. Hause batted a rebound out of the air and into the net, knotting the game at 2-2 going into the first intermission.

Much of the second period play was special teams, as there were six penalties assessed to both teams, with two of the penalties being 5-minute majors.

Midway through the second period, the Badgers scored on their first power play opportunity of the period, taking the lead 3-2. However, it took Abby Promerberger just 30 seconds to skate through center ice, launch a shot on goal, and tie the game once again.

Late in the second period, the Badgers went on a five-minute power play and took the lead 4-3.

The Badgers added their third and final power play goal of the evening with 12 minutes remaining in the game. After the Badger's fifth goal, the Tommies kept pushing. The Purple created many scoring opportunities, recording 10 shots on goal in the final 10 minutes of the game.  Unable to put one past Wisconsin's goaltender, the Tommies ultimately fell to the Badgers, 5-3.
