Women’s Hockey welcomes No. 1 Wisconsin for WCHA series

The Tommies host the Badgers in first home series of 2025

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team returns home to host #1 Wisconsin for a WCHA weekend series. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 17, and 3:00 p.m. on Jan. 18 at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.

Last Weekend Recap
The Tommies opened the second half of the season at Ridder Arena last Friday and Saturday. The Gophers defeated St. Thomas by scores of 4-2 and 5-1 over the weekend.
 
On Friday, Nora Sauer tallied her first collegiate goal in Purple. On Saturday, Dani Strom faced 38 shots and made 33 saves, her 10th 30+ save performance this season.
 
Scouting the Badgers
The No. 1 Wisconsin Badgers (22-1-1, 16-1-1 WCHA) are coming off a weekend sweep of Minnesota State.
 
The Badgers lead the nation in multiple categories including goals (132), power-play percentage (.387), and winning percentage (.938).
 
Four Badgers rank in the top 10 in points in the NCAA, including the top three point-scorers: Casey O'Brien (49), Laila Edwards (43) and Caroline Harvey (41).
 
History Against the Badgers
The Badgers hold a 15-0 record against the Tommies, including a 7-0 record at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.  
 
Earlier this season, the top-ranked Badgers defeated St. Thomas 6-1 and 5-2. Madison Brown scored all three goals on the weekend for the Purple.

WCHA Pre-Season Poll
Tommie Women's Hockey was picked to finish sixth in the eight-team WCHA preseason poll, voted on by league head coaches.

Last season's national runner-up Wisconsin was selected among league head coaches to win the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's 2024-25 regular season title. The top four teams in the poll qualified for the NCAA Tournament last year.

St. Thomas plays eight of its final 14 games at home in 2025, including series against Wisconsin, Duluth and Bemidji State.
 
The Tommies wrap up the regular season with a home-and-home series against Minnesota State, playing the series finale at Saint Thomas Ice Arena on Feb. 22.
