Women’s Hockey falls to #1 Wisconsin in series opener

Stenslie scores lone goal for the Tommies in 6-1 defeat
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's hockey team welcomed the top-ranked Wisconsin Badgers for a WCHA series. In game one of the conference matchup, Wisconsin (23-1-1, 17-1-0 WCHA) added two goals in each frame to defeat St. Thomas (5-16-2, 2-14-1 WCHA) by a score of 6-1 on Friday evening.
RECAP
Wisconsin was the first on the board, scoring on an early power play opportunity in game one at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.
Looking to even the score, St. Thomas went on its first power play of the game with seven minutes to play in the opening period. Capitalizing on the player advantage, Lauren Stenslie tallied her fifth goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1. However, less than a minute later the Badgers responded, regaining the lead.
Holding the 2-1 advantage the remainder of the period, Wisconsin went into the first intermission with a one-goal lead.
The Badgers added two goals in the opening five minutes of the second frame, followed by two goals in the final 20 minutes of play, earning a 6-1 victory over the Tommies.
Dani Strom totaled 33 saves in game one against the Badgers, her 11th 30+ save performance this season.
