MANKATO, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team earned their first road win of the season and first conference win against Minnesota State on Saturday afternoon.

The Tommies scored a goal in each period, defeating the Mavericks 3-2 in game one of the series.

RECAP
St. Thomas opened scoring late in the first period as Lauren Stenslie forced a turnover, passing the puck to fellow linemate Brieja Parent. Parent found the back of the net, scoring her third of the season to send the Tommies into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.

After adding nine shots on goal through the first 15 minutes of the second period, the Tommies scored their second of the afternoon to double their lead. Maddie Brown added her sixth of the season on a wraparound goal.

The final two minutes of the middle frame were played 4-on-4, as both teams were sent to the box. Calla Frank recorded 19 saves through 40 minutes, keeping the Mavericks off the board.

With 17:36 remaining in the game, St. Thomas was sent to the box, putting Minnesota State on the player advantage. On the third period penalty kill, the Tommies allowed only one shot on net and added two blocked shots, maintaining the two-goal lead.

The Mavericks pulled their goaltender to play with an extra attacker, but with 44 seconds remaining, Rylee Bartz scored an empty net goal to extend St. Thomas' lead 3-0.

Minnesota State scored two goals in the final 30 seconds of the game; however the comeback bid was not enough.

After scoring a goal each period, St. Thomas earned its first conference win over the Mavericks.
