Just over five minutes into the second period, Minnesota State drew its second penalty of the game, going back on the power play. The Tommies allowed only one shot on goal, adding two blocked shots during these two minutes shorthanded.

Shortly after St. Thomas' penalty expired, the Mavericks scored their second goal to retake the lead.

Halfway through the second period, Minnesota State was assessed a five-minute major. Unable to set up in zone, the Tommies recorded two shots on goal on during this power play. However, shortly after the power play ended, Abby Promersberger scored the equalizer for the Purple.

With under a minute remaining in the middle frame, Keara Parker scored her fourth of the season to give the Tommies the 3-2 lead going into the second intermission.

The first half of the final period remained scoreless until Minnesota State tied the game once again with 8:46 to play.

Lauren Stenslie put the Tommies back on top with just over a minute to play in regulation, scoring off a rebound by Ellah Hause's shot on goal.

With 40 seconds to play, the Tommies were called for tripping, going back on the penalty kill. The Mavericks pulled their goalie to play with 6-on-4 advantage. On this advantage, Minnesota State scored their first power play of the weekend, sending the game into overtime.

Less than a minute into the overtime period, Nicole Vallario skated the puck down behind the goal line, passing the puck to the front of the net for Rylee Bartz, who put the puck past the Minnesota State goaltender to end the game.
