Six Tommies score seven goals in a home ice victory over Franklin Pierce
Mendota Heights, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's hockey team had a day, winning 7-2 in their home opener. The Tommies moved the puck well, having 11 different players in the point category in Friday's contest.
Offensively, the Tommies' seven goals broke the record for most goals in a game in the D-I era. St. Thomas also finished with 43 shots on net, including 18 shots that lead to four goals during the second period. The last time the Tommies had four goals in one period was February of 2020.
RECAP
Freshman Keara Parker opened things up by scoring the first goal of the season for the Tommies, with assists from fellow freshman Rylee Bartz and Ella Boerger in the first period. This goal marked Parker's first collegiate goal as well as Bartz and Boerger's first collegiate points.
After ending the first period 1-0, the Purple offense exploded in the second period. The second goal of the game came on the power play as Ella Boerger capitalized on an assist from Keara Parker. Parker and Boerger quickly captured their first collegiate multipoint game on that goal.
Shortly after, freshman Ellah Hause found the back of the net for the Tommies, scoring her first career goal and advancing the score to 3-0.
St. Thomas wasn't done scoring yet, adding two more goals in the second period. Juniors Nicole Vallario and and Abby Promersberger both scored their first of the season, extending the Tommies lead to 5-0 going into the third period.
The third period started with two goals from the Ravens, narrowing the gap to 5-2. The Purple didn't back down, as defenseman Haley Maxwell tallied her first goal of the season and second point of the afternoon, putting the Tommies up 6-2.
In the final minute of play, freshman Ella Boerger buried her second goal of the game, helping the Tommie offense to set a D-I program record of goals scored in a single game. Boerger also tied the single game record of goals in a single game (two), and points in a single game (three). In net, graduate student Calla Frank recorded her first win at St. Thomas, making 16 saves for the Tommies.

QUOTEABLES
Coach Johnson on the first win of the season:
"It was exciting. Having some score their first goal, and more than that, getting their first shift and then having the chance to put the jersey on for the first time, I think was a very special moment for a lot of them. Then to be able to come out and play as well as we did in the first period and really set the tone. We still have areas to grow, but a very fun day."
UP NEXT
