Game One Recap
Tommie Women's Hockey hung close all afternoon but fell short in game one of a weekend series vs. Minnesota State. The host Mavericks took a 3-1 victory.

St. Thomas received 27 saves from Saskia Maurer

Maija Almich scored her team-best fourth goal six minutes into the final frame, but the Purple couldn't get closer.

MSU never trailed. The host team outshot the Toms 30-24.

Game Two Recap
A WCHA women's hockey game in Mendota Heights that was scoreless through the first 50 minutes quickly turned in favor of visiting Minnesota State.

The Mavericks scored twice in a 2:42 span midway through the third frame and held on to claim a 2-0 victory over St. Thomas.

The Tommies had 27 shots on goal, a season best through their first 10 conference games, but Mavs goalie Alexa Berg made several good stops and joined her teammates in recording the shutout.

Anna and Ally Promersberger each had four shots on goal for the Toms. Alexa Dobchuk had 24 saves.

Styles Make Fights II
It has been over a month since the Tommies and Huskies faced off on the frozen pond, but one thing remains constant.

St. Thomas has been penalized the second least in the nation at four and a half minutes per game, only Brown of the ECAC has been sent to the sinbin less.

St. Cloud plays a much more physical brand of hockey as they are the most penalized team in the WCHA and third-most in the country.

The Huskies were sent to the penalty box eight times for 22 minutes including two major penalties for boarding and hitting from behind in their two early-season games against St. Thomas.

Scouting the Huskies
St. Cloud State is currently receiving votes in the USA Today National Poll and are in sixth place in the WCHA standings with 13 points and a 4-8-0 conference record.

The Huskies are coming off a two-game sweep of the Lindenwood Lions (7-2, 4-2) after falling in two games to Minnesota Duluth (2-0, 5-1).

All four of their conference wins have come against the opponents below them in the standings (Bemidji State and St. Thomas).

They are led offensively by the reigning WCHA Forward of the Week Jenniina Nylund whose 21 points ranks fifth in the conference. Nylund scored three goals and added two assists against Lindenwood last weekend.

Between the pipes the Huskies have arguably the best tandem in the WCHA with both goalies in the conference top-five for save percentage (Jojo Chobak - .932 and Sanni Ahola - .920).

Series History
The matchups between the Tommies and Huskies have gotten out to a rollercoaster start. St. Thomas beat St. Cloud in two of its first three meetings, tying the other 2-2 in overtime. The Huskies have handed it to the Purple in their three matchups since by scores of 3-2, 4-1, and 4-0.

Earlier this season St. Cloud swept the two-game home-and-home series. They took down the Tommies 4-1 in Mendota Heights and finished the sweep 4-0 on home ice in St. Cloud.

Klara Hymlarova scored three goals in the two-game series and the goaltender tandem of Sanni Ahola and Jojo Chobak allowed just one goal in 120 minutes while stopping 33 Tommie shots.

Luci Bianchi scored St. Thomas' lone goal in the third period of game one at home, Emma McCauley tallied her first career point while assisting on the play.

St. Cloud Familiarity
Although the Tommies are new to the WCHA they are not new to playing games in St. Cloud.

They have only faced off with the Huskies three times at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center for a 1-1-1 record.

However, St. Thomas had been playing games on the road in St. Cloud since 2010 when they were on the D3 level against the College of St. Benedict.

The Tommies were dominant when traveling to the Bennies going 7-3-1 on the road.

Last Season
The Purple look to improve on last season's 5-27-1 record. Seventeen of those losses came against four WCHA opponents that advanced to the 11-team national tournament. The Tommies lost seven games by one- or two-goal margins.

Two of the three Tommies WCHA victories came in games against St. Cloud State by 3-2 scores. The other victory came 2-1 against Bemidji State.

The team returns all eight of their top point-scorers from 2021-22: Abby Promersberger (13), Allie Monrean (12), Lauren Stenslie (10), Anna Solheim (10), Luci Bianchi (9), Maddy Clough (8), Nicole Vallario (7), and Maija Almich (7).

Familiar faces Saskia Maurer and Alexa Dobchuk return between the pipes for the 2022-23 season. Both goalies accounted for all recorded starts in the 2021-22 season.

World Class Talent
Lotti Odnoga (Hungarian National Team) joined her new Tommie teammates Nicole Vallario and Saskia Maurer (Swiss National Team) as competitors in the recent 10-team Women's World Championships in Denmark.
