Strong stretches of play for Women's Hockey in 2-0 loss
11/20/2022 5:50:00 PM | Women's Hockey
Mendota Heights, Minn. -- A WCHA women's hockey game here Sunday that was scoreless through the first 50 minutes quickly turned in favor of visiting Minnesota State.
The Mavericks scored twice in a 2:42 span midway through the third frame and held on to claim a 2-0 victory over St. Thomas.
The Tommies (3-11 overall, 0-10 WCHA) had 27 shots on goal -- a season best for their first 10 conference games -- but Mavs goalie Alexa Berg made several good stops and joined her teammates in recording the shutout.
Anna and Ally Promersberger each had four shots on goal for the Toms. Alexa Dobchuk had 24 saves.
Quoting Coach Joel Johnson
"I thought the second and third periods were maybe two of our best periods of the year. We generated (scoring) chances but the puck just didn't find its way into the back of the net. Mankato was able to capitalize on a chance or two. It's disappointing. I shared with our team at the end of our game that sometimes you play the game the right way and it doesn't work out in your favor. I'm really proud of the way we played.
"This will be a nice break, it's always good to spend time with loved ones over the holidays. I think we'll practice for a few days and have some fun and take a nice few days off. Then we can reset and come back and get ready for a new opponent."
