St. Thomas Baseball stranded 10 runners in each game and lost 8-2 and 5-3 in an MIAC doubeheader Sunday in Collegeville. St. John's (16-4 MIAC) won the solo conferemnce title with the sweep. It was the first time since 2016 that UST was swept in a conference twinbill.
The Tommies (17-15 overall, 12-6 MIAC) had 10 hits in each game and more than two dozen baserunners on the day but managed just five runs.
UST was hurt over the two games by four errors, seven walks, three passed balls, a wild pitch and a balk.
Sophomore Ryan Lust went 5-for-7 with a walk and ran his hitting streak to nine games. He had three hits in the opener and two in game two. Lust is batting .525 over his last 13 games (21-of-40) to raise his season average to .400.
Hunter Hart had three hits on the day, including a two-run homer in the opener.
The Toms close the MIAC regular season Monday with a home twinbill against playoff hopeful Gustavus. The first of two seven-inning games starts at 2:30 p.m. The Toms can tie for second in the conference race with a sweep, and tie for third place with a split.
