Tommies and Golden Bears play longest Summit League game ever

ST. PAUL, MINN. - Mother Nature made her impact known over the past few days at Koch Diamond in St. Paul. Friday got off to a rough start when the start time was pushed back to due to storms and was later suspended in 11th inning knotted at five due to darkness.  The game was then picked back up in the wind and cold on Saturday, before the Tommies and Golden Bears played the second game of the weekend.

The Tommies and Golden Bears played the longest game in Summit League history lasting 21 innings before the Tommies fell 8-7.

St. Thomas then bounced back and took the second game of the day 11-3.

Scoring Summary:

The Tommies struck first by plating two in the top half of the first off, a Matthew Maulik RBI and a Golden Bears error. Northern Colorado then responded by plating one of their own in the bottom of the first.

The Golden Bears then knotted the game at two in the third inning.

St. Thomas responded in the fourth when Owen Bond's triple scored two, giving the Tommies a 4-2 lead. Northern Colorado then scored one in both the bottom of the fourth and the fifth to tie the game at four.

The Golden Bears plated one in the bottom of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead. The Tommies tied the game at five in the ninth when Joe Roders sac fly scored Bond.

Friday's game was then suspended in the top of the 11th  inning due to lack of daylight and resumed on Saturday.

Both teams scored twice in the 19th the Tommies coming off a Joe Roder double.

The Golden Bears then plated the game winning run on a bases load balk in the 21st inning.
