Another day, another long road trip, another nine-inning game, but a different resullt Friday night for Tommie baseball.
After playing 14 innings and settling for a 4-4 tie on Thursday at UW-Superior -- a game where UST never led -- St. Thomas jumped to a 5-0 early lead at No. 11-ranked Wartburg and went on to post a 6-4 victory.
Dan Ziemann had a two-run home run --his first varsity round tripper -- to help UST (20-13-1) surprise the Iowa Conference champion Knights (30-10).
Starter Ty Feyereisen allowed three runs in four innings. Colin Wendinger came on to allow just one run, one walk and three hits over the final five innings, with seven strikeouts.
The Toms were outhit 8-5 and but capitalized on a Wartburg error in its early surge.
St. Thomas is home Sunday to face Augsburg in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
