Tommies drop series finale vs. SDSU

4/11/2026 2:18:00 PM | Baseball

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of St. Thomas baseball team struggled in Saturday's series finale against South Dakota State University. The Tommies fell to the visiting Jackrabbits 13-2 in seven innings, falling to 6-23 overall and 2-8 in Summit League play. Offensively, Easton Fritcher was the lone St. Thomas player to record a multi-hit game, going 2-3 at the plate with one run scored. Owen Marsolek suffered just his second loss of the season on the mound.

ST. THOMAS (2) vs. SDSU (13)
South Dakota State scored one run in each of the first three innings for an early 3-0 lead. However, early base runners by the Tommies gave them chances to tie or whittle away at the Jackrabbits lead. St. Thomas was unable to capitalize on its scoring chances, while SDSU simply could not stop scoring. The Jackrabbits put up six in the fourth and three in the fifth, holding a 12-0 advantage over St. Thomas after five innings of play.

The Tommies finally struck in the bottom of the seventh, as Matthew Maulik delivered a timely two-out single, scoring both Fritcher and Tanner Recchio. However, St. Thomas was unable to extend the lead, as Owen Bond ground out to the third baseman to end the game.
