Tommie split Friday doubleheader

Maulik tallies two home runs on the day
ST. PAUL, MINN.- The St. Thomas Tommies split the series opening double header with the Jackrabbits Friday afternoon. The Tommies fell 7-2 in game one before bouncing back and winning game two 4-1.
Matthew Maulik led the Purple with two home runs on the day. Joe Roder also chipped in one of his own.
Game one:
The Tommies struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Tanner Recchio led off with a hit, stole second, and scored on a sac fly from Matthew Maulik. The Jackrabbits responded by plating two of their own in the third to take a 2-1 lead. South Dakota State then plated two more in the fifth to extend their lead to 4-1.
Maulik then hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, putting the Tommies back within two.
The Jackrabbits then scored two more in the seventh, taking a 6-2 lead before adding one more in the eighth and taking the game 7-2.
Game two:
Maulik picked up right where he left off scoring the first run of the game in the fourth inning on his second solo home run of the day. South Dakota State then knotted the game at one in the fifth.
Zan Von Schlegell came up big in the bottom of the seventh with a double that scored Adam Puder, giving the Tommies a 2-1 lead.
Zak Endres then worked out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the eighth and gave the Tommies momentum heading into the dugout.
Joe Roder then extended the Tommie lead to 3-1 in the bottom of eighth with a solo home run to rightfield. Easton Fritcher's single then scored Matthew Maulik who reached on a double.

The Tommies and Jackrabbits will play game three of the series Saturday, April 11.
