Softball splits Thursday games

Tommie softball split two Thursday games in Clermont, Fla. UST lost 2-1 to UW-Oshkosh and won 4-2 over Union (N.Y.).
In the loss, Jenna Hoffman had three hits and the Toms outhit Oshkosh 8-5. A fifth-inning sac fly for the Titans snapped a 1-1 tie. Kendra Bowe pitched six innings and allowed two earned runs.
The Toms (10-4) are 7-3 on the trip, with three defeats by a combined four runs. They close their 12-game trip with Friday games against Williams (Mass.) and Calvin (Mich.).

Tuesday's story
In softball, the Toms scored a 6-0 win over Concordia-Wisconsin and a 14-3 win over UW-Whitewater, the latter in five innings. UST scored 10 runs in the first inning to pull away from aWhitewater, an NCAA playoff team last season. Micaela Trainor had her second home run of the trip.
Jenna Hoffman had three hits and Kendra Bowe threw a four-hit shutout with no walks and five strikeouts to top Concordia.
UST (9-3) is off Wednesday and plays two on Thursday and two more on Friday.

Monday story
Tommie softball (7-3) topped MIT 13-0 in five innings but lost 4-3 to North Central (Ill.) on Monday. They play single games on Tuesday against Concordia-Wisconsin and UW-Whitewater.
Kirsten Bigelbach went 3-for-3 in the loss to North Central and 2-for-2 against MIT.

Sunday story
In softball, St. Thomas shutout Wellesley, 7-0, and topped RIT 14-5 in five innings on Sunday. Micaela Trainor had a grand slam in the RIT win. Kendra Bowe threw a four-hit shutout and Emily Gregory had three hits vs. Wellesley.
The Tommies (6-2) play a pair of single games Monday against North Central (Ill.) and MIT.

Saturday story
Tommie won 4-0 over D-Youville (N.Y.) but lost 5-3 to Anderson (Ind.). Brenna Walek had a two-run homer and Emily Gregory had two hits in the loss. Against D'Youville, Jenna Hoffman and Mary Rentz each had two hits, and Kirsten Bigelbach and Breezy Bannon combined on a one-hit shutout.
The Toms play two games on Sunday.
