Softball drops game one at North Dakota State

Avery Wukawitz blasted her 12th home run in the loss
FARGO, N.D. – St. Thomas softball (25-13, 6-4 Summit League) fell 10-2 in game one of its midweek series at North Dakota State (20-18, 4-3), surrendering runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings after taking an early lead.
The Tommies struck first in the top of the third inning when Avery Wukawitz launched a two-run home run, her team-leading 12th of the season, to score Laken Lienhard and give St. Thomas a 2-0 advantage. Those would be the only runs of the game for the Purple.
Wukawitz paced the offense with two of the team's seven hits, while Zoe Trotter added the only other extra-base hit with a two-out double in the sixth inning.
Ella Cook took the loss in the circle, pitching 4.0-plus innings and allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Ava Kleinfeldt and Mya Tautges combined in relief, giving up five runs (two earned). Defensively, the Tommies committed four errors.

St. Thomas will look to bounce back in a doubleheader against North Dakota State tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
