No. 24-ranked St. Thomas (3-1 overall, 1-1 MIAC) set a modern scoring record with 10 touchdowns and 69 points and gained nearly 700 yards in Saturday's MIAC football win over St. Olaf (0-5, 0-3) in Northfield.

St. Thomas posted 39 first downs -- an MIAC record and one off the Division III record of 40 held by Mount Union.

Matt O'Connell completed 19-of-22 passes in the first half en route to a 48-0 halftime lead. Nick Waldvogel scored three TDs and Charlie Dowdle had two TD catches and closed with 109 total receiving yards.

The Oles averted a shutout in the final 3:00 as John Bennett returned a fumble 36 yards for a touchdown.

The Tommie defense had three takeaways, didn't allow any points, and limited the Oles to 99 yards of total offense. That included 15 net rushing yards on 20 carries. UST's defense held the Oles to 0-for-10 on third-down conversions.

Tommie soph LB Matthew Larson had a forced fumble and recovery and an interception, and both plays set up first-half TD drives. Cavan Metzler forced a fumble that was recovered by Michael Alada.

UST punted just once and now has punted only seven times in four games this season. O'Connell passed for 266 yards; Brenton Braddock rushed for 119 yards; Jack Kaiser had 109 rushing/receiving yards; and Waldvogel had 109 all-purpose yards. UST converted 8-of-13 on third and fourth downs.

The 62-point win was the Tommies' largest margin of victory in their last 100 seasons. It surpassed a 58-0 home shutout of Augsburg in 1930 and is St. Thomas' most since a 67-0 defeat of UW-Oshkosh to open the 1914 season.

St. Thomas has won 18 of its last 19 MIAC road games.
