Track & Field treks to Minnesota for Snowshoe Open on Friday

Tommies to compete in final meet before Summit League Indoor Championships

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Thomas treks across the Mississippi River for the fourth time this indoor season as it will compete at the Snowshoe Open on Feb. 21 hosted by the University of Minnesota.
 
The Snowshoe Open begins Friday at 2 p.m. with the men's shot put while running events start at 2:30 p.m. with the women's 60-meter hurdles prelims. Live results can be found HERE.
 
Last Time Out
The 4x400-meter relays for St. Thomas men's and women's track & field capped an already record-breaking weekend at the SDSU Indoor Classic. The relays were two of eight records set or tied for the Tommies in Brookings, S.D. on the 300-meter track.
 
The women's team broke five program records led by freshman Danika Apple who set the 200m dash record at 24.43 and the 60m dash record with a winning time of 7.46. Rebecca Randleman (55.99) and Hannah Cornelius (56.15) topped the previous 400m dash record, finishing fifth and sixth at the meet, respectively. The 4x400m relay team of Randleman, Cornelius, Hailey Hindt, and Olivia Keller shattered a record that stood since 2013, taking second in 3:51.71. Other top-10 program performances included Molly Desotell (17:07.93, 5000m), Ava Pankratz (17:18.54, 5000m; 5:01.39, mile), Olivia Keller (8.82, 60m hurdles), and freshman Janiya Moore (25.53, 200m).
 
The Tommie men also set three program records in Brookings, led by Mitchell Piehl, who tied the 200m record at 21.68 and set a new 400m dash mark at 48.10. Freshman Blake Burnstad won the 1000m run in 2:27.09, tying the program record, and later finished second in the 800m (1:51.09), ranking second all-time. The 4x400m relay team of Piehl, Johnny Bezdicek, Jack Rosner, and Cameron Heppner set a new program record at 3:14.70, breaking a mark that had stood since 2005. Additional top-10 performances included Bezdicek (21.76, 200m, fourth all-time) and Heppner (1:52.31, 800m, fourth all-time) as the Tommies continued to rewrite their indoor record books.
