The Tommies remain right in the thick of it for the final Summit League playoff spot

ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Thomas Men's Soccer (7-4-4, 1-2-1) matched up with the UMass Minutemen (6-5-6, 1-2-2) for the first time on Saturday at South Field in front of a strong crowd on senior day. Cameron Olziewski made two saves in his first career shutout as the Toms outshot the Minutemen 20-8.

Game Summary
First Half
-Neither team worked a shot on goal until Mathis Guffroy put one on net in the 26th minute, UMass' goalkeeper made the stop, his first of what would end up being 12 total saves.
-Guffroy put another shot on net in the 31st minute, but that was all for either team a tightly contested and well played first half.
-UMass earned one yellow card in the 18th minute.

Second Half
-St. Thomas reserve, Chance Therrien, put a strong shot on frame in the 48th minute just out of the halftime break but did not beat the keeper.
-After a pair of saved shots from the Tommies, Minutemen defender, Aidan Kelly, made what ended up being a game-saving play in the 58th minute. Yanis Lakhlifi had a free run at the goal mouth and Kelly committed a foul from behind to prevent the scoring chance. Kelly would receive a red card but saved the goal.
-Despite 16 shots in the second half, a majority while with man advantage, the Toms could not get one by the Minutemen goalkeeper.

Quoting Coach Lowery
"What a good Summit League game. I felt that we were sharp in all areas, we really handled what they brought to the table. We were great on the defensive side of the ball. We knew we weren't going to have a ton of chances offensively, but at the same time we got some good looks. We go again at Delware next Saturday as we continute to hunt for that playoff spot. From top to bottom I am proud of the guys today. It was a great representation of what we have become during this ascent. I glad we got to honor the seniors today as well."

Up Next
