Men’s Soccer falls on the road to top Summit League side

The Tommies limited the high-scoring Delaware Blue Hens to just one goal

NEWARK, Dela. – St. Thomas Men's Soccer's (7-5-4, 1-3-1 Summit League) playoff hopes were in the balance on Saturday afternoon at Grant Stadium against the conference's top scoring Delaware Blue Hens (12-1-2, 3-1-1). The Tommies limited the Hens to just one goal in their 1-0 loss in the season's penultimate contest.
 
Game Summary
First Half
-Cameron Olszewski got the start in goal once more for the Tommies in a head-to-head matchup with one of the best goalkeepers in the country, JoJo Elliott. The Blue Hens had recorded a program record eight shutouts and allowed just six goals this season at .462 per game coming into Saturday's match.
-The Tommies put the first shot on frame of the game in the 18th minute. Mathis Guffroy earned the chance but could not get it by Elliott.
-Delaware scored on their first shot in the 22nd minute, the Summit League leading 11th goal from Blue Hen, Mikey Johnson. (Three different Delaware strikers are tied for the conference lead)
-Simon Klevberg received a yellow card in the 28th minute.
-Olszewski made a late half save to preserve the one goal game in the 44th.
 
Second Half
-The Tommie goalkeeper played out of his mind in the final 45 with seven saves to keep the Blue Hen lead to just one.
-St. Thomas got two shots off in the second half and three on goal for the entire game. Their best chance of the contest came off the foot of Yanis Lakhlifi in the 60th minute. The Frenchman roped a spinning line drive from the left side of the box postmarked for the top corner, but Elliott made the save to earn his ninth shutout of the season.
-Alejandro Giner and Gabriel Verona each received yellow cards in the 73rd and 81st minute, respectively.

The Tommies complete the 2025 regular season with a matchup against the Denver Pioneers (8-7-1, 3-1-0) on Wednesday, November 5 at 2 p.m. on South Field in St. Paul.
