St. Thomas to compete at Mark Schuck Open Jan. 31-Feb. 1

Tommies travel to Mankato, Minn., for two-day meet

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- After seeing two program records fall and 11 top 10 indoor marks set a week ago, St. Thomas track & field will compete at the Mark Schuck Open and Multi Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at Myers Fieldhouse in Mankato, Minn.
 
The meet begins Friday at 1 p.m. with the women's pentathlon and at 2 p.m. with the men's heptathlon, followed by the men's pole vault and 3000-meter run, 300m dash, 500m dash and distance medley relay. Saturday's field events start at 11 a.m. followed by the running events at 12:30 p.m.

Last Time Out
Freshman Danika Apple broke St. Thomas indoor records in the 60m (7.56) and 200m dashes (24.63) at the Cyclone Open Jan. 24, winning the 60m dash and taking second in the 200m. Apple surpassed the 60m record set in 2014 and the 200m mark set last season. Rebecca Randleman added a win in the 400m dash (56.65), the second-best time in program history, while Olivia Keller finished third in 57.09, the program's third-fastest mark. In the 3000m, Olivia Pauly (9:54.21) and Ava Pankratz (10:00.61) placed second and third, respectively, with Pauly moving to third all-time. At the Jack Johnson Classic, Emily Baker won the 3000m (10:39.40), and the women totaled seven personal records and four top-three finishes, including Katie Nollette's pole vault win (3.52m). 
 
The men earned one event win and three top-three finishes at the Cyclone Open, highlighted by Will DiSessa's victory in the triple jump (14.15m), ranking 10th in program history. Mitchell Piehl placed third in the 400m dash (48.78), the program's fourth-best time on an oversized track, while freshman Blake Burnstad finished seventh in the 800m (1:53.64), ranking eighth all-time. At the Jack Johnson Classic, the men added another win with Ben Batalden taking the 800m in 1:58.03 and Ethan Starfield finishing second (1:58.51).
