Men’s and Women’s Track & Field travels to Houston for season opener
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The 2024 outdoor season officially begins March 22-23 as the St. Thomas men's and women's track & field programs travel for the Victor Lopez Classic hosted by Rice University.
The Tommies are sending a small group to Houston, with seven student-athletes from the women's team and four from the men's. Fans can follow along with live results HERE.
Reigning back-to-back Summit League Decathlon Champion Nate Raddatz is set to compete in four events at the meet, including the 100m hurdles, discus, javelin, and long jump. His current personal record of 7157 in the decathlon ranks second in program history, trailing only Erik Rosenkrantz's record of 7212 set in 1995. Also traveling for the meet will be All-Summit League Outdoor honorees Isaiah Hopf (2022), Mitchell Piehl (2023), and Jack Rosner (2022).
Competing Saturday will be the women's program record holder in the 100m hurdles Taynian Walgrave, Alexis Pratt in the 100m and 200m dash, and freshman Rebecca Randleman making her outdoor debut in the 400m dash. Pratt trails the program records in the 100m dash by 0.05 seconds and the 200m dash by 0.09 seconds. Randleman's personal record in the 400m dash this past indoor season was within one second of the program's record. Also competing at the meet are Cassia Cady, Hailey Hindt, Olivia Keller, and Hailey Shimon.
The Tommies enter the outdoor season with the men selected to finish fifth and the women sixth in the 2024 Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches' Poll. The men finished the 2023 outdoor season fourth at the league championships while the women took fifth.
