Baseball falls to Illinois State and Saint Louis on day one of Snowbird Classic

The Tommies record four home runs over the two games, including two from Matthew Maulik
In game two of the day, Saint Louis defeated St. Thomas, 21-10.
Recap vs Illinois State
Seven runs in the fourth inning lifted Illinois State over the Tommies.
Walker Retz started pitching for the Purple, recording five strikeouts as St. Thomas led the Redbird 2-1 through the first three innings.
The Tommies earned their two runs in the second, as Zan Von Schlegell and Mikey Gottschalk each recorded an RBI.
The Redbirds strung together 11 runs in two innings, putting Illinois State in the 12-5 lead at the top of the sixth.
Down 18-9 at the bottom of the ninth, the Tommies added three runs to their total, but could not come back against the Redbirds.
Ben Vujovich led the Tommies with four hits, including one home run. He also recorded three RBIs and two runs in the first game of the season. Joe Vos, Von Schlegell and Gottschalk each recorded three hits for the Purple.
The Tommies totaled 12 runs on 17 hits against the Redbirds.
Recap vs Saint Louis
An early deficit led the Purple to a 21-10 loss against Saint Louis. The Billikens scored seven runs in the first inning and totaled 16 through the first three innings.
Max Nyrop was the first to cross home plate for the Purple, as he was drove in by Joe Roder on an RBI single.
In the third inning, freshman Matthew Maulik recorded his first collegiate home run, scoring the second run of the game for the Tommies. Joe Vos also drove home his first home run of the season at the bottom of the fourth, making it a 16-3 game.
St. Thomas recorded four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, led by Matthew Maulik who tallied his second home run of the game with a three-run homer. Maulik finished 3-for-3 on at bats and totaled four RBIs.
The Purple finished game two, totaling 10 runs on 11 hits.
