Two second half goals push the Pioneers to the victory

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Tommies fall in the Summit League opener to the No. 19-ranked Denver Pioneers. Denver offense found two straight second half goals to lift the Pioneers to victory Saturday afternoon on South field.

Offensively, the Tommies launched five shots and put three on goal. The defense held strong the whole game, consistently shutting down the Pioneers' chances and pushing the ball up field.

RECAP
It was a back-and-forth start to the game, with the first half ending scoreless for both teams. The Tommies attempted one shot in the first half, while the Pioneers put three on goal. Tommie goalkeeper, Tucker Mann, saved all three shots in the first half, shutting down all opportunities for the Pioneers.

Second half action continued as both teams competed to break the scoreless tie. In the 62nd minute, the Pioneers capitalized on their first shot on goal of the half, gaining the 1-0 lead. The Tommies continued to battle the rest of the second half trying score the equalizing goal, as they tested the Pioneers goalkeeper with three shots on goal.

The Pioneers sealed their victory with a goal in the last minute of play to go up 2-0 and earn the Summit League win. Tucker Mann tallied two more saves in the second half to make his total five for the game.

QUOTEABLES
Thoughts from Head Coach Jon Lowery after this afternoon's match:

"The thing we're most thankful for, we just talked about as a team, is nothing is going to keep preparing us for where we want to be then what Denver brought to the field today. I thought we showed a great account of ourselves. I thought defensively we were super resilient and could be a bit braver going forward. All in all, for a Summit League opener against DU, there's a lot for us to take away positively."
