Another strong day for Women's Golf; finish day one in fifth place

Tommies finished the first of three rounds in fifth of 16 teams at Red Bird Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. – The University of St. Thomas Women's Golf team traveled to Illinois State to kick off the 2023 Redbird Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 10. The Tommies finished their first two rounds with scores of 296 and 294 as a team for a combined 590 (+14), good for fifth place out of a deep 16-team field.
St. Thomas was led by junior Isabell Lynch who finished the first 36 holes with a 146 (+2) and tied for 10th place out of over 90 competitors. The Bloomington, Minn. native shot a 76 (+4) for the first round and shaved off six strokes in the second for a (-2). Her second round included four birdies and an eagle on the 18th.
The Tommies finished the day in fifth place with their +14 score, sandwiched between sixth place Butler (+16) and fourth place Northern Illinois (+10). The Purple are eight strokes outside of the top three and 13 strokes behind first place Illinois State (+1) with 18 holes still to play.
Emma Davies (74 +2 | 74 +2 | 148 +4 Tied-18th), Kathryn VanArragon (73 +1 | 75 +3 | 148 +4 Tied-18th), Courtney Wedin (73 +1 | 75 +3 | 148 +4 Tied-18th), Niki Reineke (77 +5 | 75 +3 | 152 +8 Tied-42nd), and Caroline Monty (80 +8 | 72 +2 | 154 +10 Tied-55th) rounded out the Tommies' lineup.
