Women’s Golf battles through day one of Summit League Championship

VanArragon leads Tommies in eighth place

MESA, Ariz. – St. Thomas women's golf sits in sixth place after the opening round of the Summit League Championship at Longbow Golf Club. The Tommies are 10 strokes back of the top three and trail tournament leader South Dakota State by 14 strokes heading into day two.  
 
All-Summit League First Team honoree Kathryn VanArragon led the Purple, carding a 75 (+4) to sit in a three-way tie for eighth place after 18 holes.
 
St. Thomas posted a team score of 312 (+28) on a challenging day across the field, as no golfer finished below par. Madison Hicks of North Dakota State holds the individual lead after shooting a 72 (+1).
 
Emma Davies added a 78 (+7) to place inside the top 20, while Amelia Morton followed closelt with a 79 (+8), good for a tie for 22nd. Karen Lind Stefansdottir rounded out the Tommie scorers with an 80 (+9), and Genevieve Birkeland shot 82 (+11).
 
The Tommies return to the course tomorrow morning for the second round of the three-day championship.
