13-team field set for October 5-6

ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Thomas women's golf has witnessed a strong start to the season
after capturing third in the Diane Thomason Invitational following their two victories in the UNC Bear Brawl and Redbird Invitational. They look to continue their dominant run at the 13-team Marilynn Smith/ Sunflower Invitational hosted by Kansas University at Lawrence CC, October 5-6.

This is the second time the Tommies will be competing at the Marilynn Smith/ Sunflower Invitational. They took place 13th out of 14 teams last season. Returning senior Kathryn VanArragon finished T-66th at the event last October but is on fire this season with a trio of individual titles thus far.

St. Thomas women's golf placed third out of a 13-team field in the Diane Thomason Invitational in Davenport, Iowa, hosted by the University of Iowa. They finished with scores of 295-300-298 –893 (+41), never finishing worse than 5th across the three rounds.
Kathryn VanArragon kept her winning streak alive by carding a blistering first round 67 (-4) with five birdies against one bogey to finish at 212 (-1) over the three rounds. Her first-round tally was the second lowest out of the 79 participating golfers.
 
Sandwiched around VanArragon's team leading first and third rounds was Nicole Reineke, who shot one-under-par with three birdies and ended strong with an eagle on her final hole in the second round. Reineke's fifth-place finish was her best since winning the Big O Classic individual title during her freshmen year.
