Coach Hanneman is entering her fifth season as the head coach of Women's Golf at the University of St. Thomas in 2026-27.

In the Tommies’ first year under Hanneman the team finished ninth in the Summit League Championships. The team captured four individual Top-25 finishes highlighted by freshman Isabelle Lynch’s 14th place performance at the Summit League Championships.

In year two the Toms took seventh place at the Summit League Championships and finished the season with two top-three team finishes. The team captured 21 individual Top-25 finishes including Emma Davies’ 16th place finish at the conference championship. The Tommies improved from an 18-hole stroke average of 330 at the 2022 Summit tournament to a 305 average in 2023.

Year three for Coach Hanneman was the most productive in program history with team titles at the NDSU Fall Invitational, Big O Classic, and Tommie Invitational. The Tommies also took second place at the Stampede at the Creek and third place at the Summit League Championships, the best finish in program history. Nicole Reineke became the first Tommie in program history to secure an individual title with her win at the Big O Classic. Kathryn VanArragon followed Reineke's lead with a individual title at the Tommie Invitational and Isabelle Lynch locked up first place at the Stampede at the Creek. In total, the Tommies earned 16 Top-10s and 12 Top-5s.

The highlight of year four was the repeat victory of both Kathryn VanArragon and the Tommies at the Tommie Invitational. The Purple took second at the Jackrabbit Invitational and fifth at the Summit League Championships. Isabelle Lynch fired a career-best 214 at those Summit League Championships for a program-best second place finish. The Toms combined for 10 Top-10s and four Top-5s.

Year five was a rebuilding year with promising results late in the season from the program's two freshman, Genevieve Birkeland and Karen Steffansdottir. Birkeland was named to the Summit League All-Freshman Team and Kathryn earned her third spot on an All-Summit League Team. The Toms took sixth place at the Summit League Championships and were led by Emma Davies and Stefansdottir who each tied for 11th place.

She also played as an amateur in the 1996 LPGA Edina Realty Classic; later competed on the Futures Tour and Players West Tour; and attended LPGA Qualifying School.
As a certified trainer with the Positive Coaching Alliance-Minnesota, she leads workshops for training youth sports coaches and parents on their role in developing not just the athletics side but also teaching sportsmanship and citizenship.

She served as head coach at the University of Minnesota from 2002-2007, and East Tennessee State from 2000-2002.

Phil Esten, St. Thomas Vice President, and Director of Athletics says, "Katie has proven to be a values-based leader with an incredible golf IQ, and a love and passion for the game that is infectious. Even more, her commitment to developing our student-athletes off the course as much as on the course directly aligns with our vision at St. Thomas. I am excited to welcome Coach Hanneman and her family to the Tommie community, and I look forward to celebrating many successes with them."
