Women's Golf looks to finish season well at Summit League tourney

St. Paul, Minn. – St. Thomas Women's Golf will wrap up the 2022-23 season this week with the Summit League Championship in Lincoln, Neb. The 54-hole tournament will take place from Sunday April 23 through Tuesday April 25.
Denver appears to be the presumptive favorite for the upcoming event, boasting six of the top conference's top eight players based on season stroke average. The Pioneers won last season's conference championship by 21 strokes.
The Toms look like a good bet to improve upon last year's conference team performance. Coming off a ninth-place finish last April, this season's players have dropped 25 strokes off the Toms' 2021-22 team scoring average.
St. Thomas last competed on April 10-11 at the Stampede at the Creek, hosted by the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Out of the nine teams in action, the Toms finished in fifth place, coming in third among the six Summit League teams in the event. Sophomore Isabelle Lynch and freshman Emma Davies notched top-10 individual finishes. Lynch finished seventh with a score of 225 (nine-over-par), and Davies tied for 10th with a 227 score (11 over).
To this point in the season, the Tommies rank sixth in the Summit League in stroke average per round at 308.5. Denver paces the conference at 291.2, while the other eight teams fall between 300.8 and 313.2. Junior Courtney Wedin leads St. Thomas with a 76.1 stroke average (13th best in the Summit League), followed closely by Lynch (77.55), freshman Caroline Monty (78.25), Davies (78.50), and sophomore Lauren Contreras (79.09).
St. Thomas lineup will consist of Lynch, Davies, Monty, Wedin and Contreras. Lynch, Wedin and Contreras are each in their second Summit League tournament. Lynch tied for 14th place last season in Newton, Kan., and Wedin tied for 28th as a freshman competing for North Dakota in spring 2021.
