Women's Golf finishes three-day Motor City Classic in fourth led by two top-10 individual finishers

Orlando, Fla. - The St. Thomas Women's Golf Team completed the three-day Motor City Classic at Rio Pinar Country Club in fourth place with two top-10 finishers in freshman Emma Davies (T-7th) and sophomore Lauren Contreras (T-9th).

The Tommies entered the day in third place, and shot a combined 317 on the final day of competition to place fourth in the six-team field. As a team, St. Thomas combined for scores of 308-310-317--935. The Purple finished only 18 strokes behind first-place Oakland.

"The experience that we gained in our first tournament of the spring schedule is going to serve as a good foundation as we build towards the conference tournament," said Head Coach Katie Hanneman. "The effort that the girls put in since our last competition in October showed in this tournament. There were a lot of great efforts across the board, we can't wait to get out on the course again."

Davies finished tied for 6th with scores of 77-76-77--230, seven strokes behind the1st-place finisher. Contreras finished four strokes behind Davies with scores of 76-79-79--234 and tied for 9th. Junior Courtney Wedin finished the classic tied for 14th with scores of 78-78-80, freshman Caroline Monty shot 81-77-84--242, finishing in 24th, while sophomore Isabelle Lynch tied for 25th with scores of 77-85-81--243.

In day two, Davies shaved one stroke off her first round, finishing day two with a score of 76, placing her tied for 8th. Monty improved a team-best four strokes in the second day of competition, finishing the day with a score of 77 and is tied for 17th.  Contreras finished the second day with a score of 79 and is tied for 12th, Wedin posted a second-straight score of 78 and sat tied for 14th after two days of competition, while  Lynch was in 26th place heading into the final round of play.

Contreras led the Tommies with a score of 76 in the first round, finishing the day tied for sixth. Lynch and  Davies each finished with a 77 in the first round, placing them in a tie for 10th place after day one. Wedin posted a 78, and was tied for 13th, Monty ended the first round tied for 25th with a score of 81.
