Women's Hockey looks to ride the winning wave against non-conference opponent RIT

Before the break, the St. Thomas earned its first WCHA sweep against Bemidji State. The Tommies defeated Bemidji State by scores of 3-1 and 5-2.
On Friday, the Tommies were down 1-0 going into the second period, but early in the second, defenseman Isabel Lippai scored a power play goal, the first of her Division I career, assisting on the play were Emma Larson and Anna Promersberger.
Both teams came out of their locker rooms tied at one for the final frame.
Tied until Haley Maxwell turned over the Beavers in the neutral zone. The freshman defensemen gained the offensive end and, with the puck on her forehand, found the tiniest of spaces to shoot through the Beavers' defense and into the back of the net for the first game-winning goal of her young career.
The Beavers pulled their goaltender with just under two minutes to go in regulation and Abby Promersberger put them away with her second goal of the season.
Alexa Dobchuk was in goal for all 60 minutes and saved 24 of 25 shots faced for a .960 save percentage and her second career WCHA victory.
Saturday's 5-2 conference win over Bemidji State was a game of "firsts."
The win marked the Tommies' first Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) two-game sweep of not only the season, but in the program's short Division I history.
The Tommies winning both games on home ice was also a program first.
Maggie Malecha had been called upon for just three periods in three different games this season. The freshman tallied not just her first career start in goal, but also her first collegiate win while stopping 28 Beaver shots for a .933 save percentage.
Kate Haug assisted on two goals in the game and added fer first career goal in the third period. Her performance marked the program's first three-point WCHA game.
About Rochester Institute of Technology (2-17-0 overall, 0-6-0 CHA)
RIT has not played a game since December 2nd when they faced Mercyhurst on the road. The Tigers fell in the CHA series 5-1 and 7-1.
The Tigers last win came on October 8th when they swept Saint Michael's College 8-0 and 9-0.
This non-conference match-up is the second time these teams have met. The Tommies swept the Tigers on the road last season 3-1 and 2-1.
Sophomore, Kylie Aquaro, currently leads the Tigers with eight points and seven assists. Graduate student, Amy Dobson, and senior, Jaymee Nolan, are tied for the team lead with four goals, Dobson also leads the team with 57 shots and is a former teammate of Abby Promersberger at Penn State.
In goal, the Tigers are led by sophomore, Sarah Coe. Coe has started 13 games (1-12-0) with 3.12 goals against average and .903 save percentage.

The Tommies and Tigers have met just two times in their programs' histories. Both contests came in the Tommies inaugural season in Division I at the Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester, NY.

Nicole Vallario scored two goals in the team's 3-1 game one victory while Maddy Clough notched the third goal on the day. Saskia Maurer got the victory stopping 12 of 13 shots faced.
Abby Promersberger and Allie Monrean each added goals to their season tallies in the 2-1 victory a day later. Alexa Dobchuk got the game two victory stopping 24 of 25 shots faced.
World Class Talent
The Swiss Women's National Team competed in the Five Nations Tournament in Angelholm, Sweden in mid-December. The team boasted a 3-1 record, toppling Czechia, Sweden, and Germany. Nicole Vallario and Saskia Maurer, two standout Tommie sophomores, took to the ice for their home nation.
Vallario tallied one point on an assist in Switzerland's 5-2 win over Sweden. In that same game, Maurer made 41 saves on 43 shots for a .950 SV%. Saskia got the starting nod in the Swiss' 8-0 shutout victory over Germany. She made 14 saves on all 14 shots faced.
Hungary's Women's National Team also competed internationally last month taking to Amiens, France, for the Four Nations Tournament. The team recorded a 1-2 record defeating host nation France 5-1.
Lotti Odnoga assisted on one goal in the win over France and one goal in the team's 3-2 loss to Japan.
