Track and Field has good start to outdoor season in Arizona

Tucson, Ariz. - Freshman Gary Afram clocked a career-best 10.64 for the 100 meters to highlight the St. Thomas Track and Field showing Saturday in day two of the U of Arizona Willie Williams Invite.

John Morrison (1:55.09) and Morey Smith (1:56.46) had solid times in the 800 to start the outdoor schedule.

Four Toms made their 110 hurdles season debut outdoors: Carter Maack (15.02), Jack Rosner (15.16), Erik Anderson (15.23) and Sam Duffing (15.56).

For the Tommie women, Carly Scheuerman (2:18.71) and Molly Desotell (2:19.16) has good starts in the 800; Hannah Cornelius ran 58.78 in the 400 dash; and Taynian Walgrave clocked 14.72 in the 100 hurdles.

Friday story

Senior Parker Feuerborn threw 204-2 and claimed second place out of 26 entrants in the hammer throw to highlight the St. Thomas Track and Field showing Friday in day one of the U of Arizona Willie Williams Invite.

Feuerborn's throw was a career best by 18 feet, and edged out twp University of Arizona athletes.

Other Friday men's results included:
  • Freshman Isaiah Hopf took sixth in the long jump in 23-3 1-4, and freshman teammate Gary Afram placed 11th in 22-10.
  • In the 400 hurdles, freshman Jack Rosner clocked 54.43 for third place out of 29; Carter Maack (55.83), Sam Duffing (55.95) and Erik Anderson (56.00) placed 9-10-11.

In Friday women's highlights for St. Thomas: The competition continues on Saturday.
