Midnight Blues: Men's Hockey falls 7-3 in Alaska

2/13/2022 12:09:00 AM | Men's Hockey

Fairbanks, Alaska -- Host Alaska-Fairbanks blew open a close game with five second-period goals and went on to record a 7-3 victory over St. Thomas in Saturday night's non-conference play.

The Nanooks (11-16-1) ran their win streak to five and closed out a two-game series sweep. Fairbanks finished with a 40-23 advantage in shots on goal.

Matthew Jennings scored a first-period power-play goal to give the Tommies their first lead of the weekend. But the host team received five goals from five different players in a 12:09 span of period two to take control of the game.

Luke Manning scored with 40 seconds left in period two to slow the Nanooks' momentum and pull the Toms within three. But two more Fairbanks goals midway through the final period denied any Tommie comeback bid.

Kimball Johnson scored a power-play goal with 4:20 left in the game to close out the night's scoring.

Jacob Berger made 33 saves for St. Thomas (2-27-1).

The Purple return to CCHA play with their final home games of their inaugural season, Feb, 18-19 against Lake Superior State.
