Tommies take down Seawolves 7-4 on Saturday night

ST. PAUL, Minn. — St. Thomas men's hockey (4-4-0, 1-1-0 NCHC) willed its way back to .500 with its first series sweep of the season, beating Alaska Anchorage (1-9-0) 7-4 on Saturday night at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena. Lucas Van Vliet scored twice in the game for five goals on the weekend, matching the most by a Tommie in a single series since Liam Malmquist scored five against Ferris State in 2025.

The Tommies finished with a 34-28 advantage in shots on goal, and their seven goals were a season high. They also blocked a season-high 24 shots in front of Will Ingemann, who won his third straight game with 24 saves.

Alaska Anchorage's Jacob Terpstra scored at 7:39 on assists from Karter McNarland and Ethan Neutens to put the Seawolves ahead 1-0. St. Thomas got through a Nathan Pilling boarding penalty midway through the first period, with a shot hitting the pipe during the power play. Dylan Godbout tied it 1-1 with an unassisted even-strength goal at 14:24, and Nick Williams put St. Thomas in front on the power play at 16:46 on assists from Quinn Rudrud and Justin Kipkie. Both goals were the first of the season for Godbout and Williams. St. Thomas has now scored at least one power-play goal in four consecutive games. Pilling scored on assists from Kaeden Hawkins and Williams at 18:45, sending the Tommies to the intermission with a 3-1 lead.

Alaska Anchorage trimmed the lead to 3-2 just 30 seconds into the second period when Ethan Warrener scored. Van Vliet then scored shorthanded at 8:10 on an assist from Jakub Altrichter to put St. Thomas back up 4-2. Warrener scored again with 4:21 remaining to close out the period's scoring, and St. Thomas took a 4-3 lead into the third.

The Seawolves drew even early in the third period, as Terpstra scored at 1:29 to make it 4-4. Van Vliet scored his fifth goal of the weekend with 8:44 left on assists from Godbout and Cole Miller to give the Tommies a 5-4 lead. Hawkins added another, finishing a setup from Van Vliet and Pilling to make it 6-4. It was Hawkins' first collegiate goal. Alaska Anchorage pulled its goalie late, but Altrichter scored an unassisted empty-net goal with 17 seconds left as St. Thomas finished off the sweep.
