2/11/2022 9:13:00 PM | Women's Hockey
Duluth, Minn. - St. Thomas women's hockey (5-22-1, 3-19-1 WCHA) battled No. 4 Minnesota Duluth (19-9-0, 16-8-0 WCHA) on Friday, losing by just one goal, 2-1.
The St. Thomas defense posted a staunch showing over the initial 20 minutes, not allowing a goal while facing 14 shots from Minnesota Duluth. The Bulldogs also showed out on the defensive end in the first period, holding the Tommies to just two shots. The Tommies, while finishing with 35 less shots than the Bulldogs, were outscored by just one goal.
The scoring for both teams occurred in the second period, as Minnesota Duluth knocked in two goals just 40 seconds apart. The Purple, helped by a power-play situation, scored on a Brieja Parent goal off assists from Alli Pahl and Emma Larson. The goal was Parent's third in 10 games with St. Thomas.
Like the first period, the third period was light on offensive showing. Neither team scored, even as the Bulldogs finished with 15 shots, their highest output for any of the three periods on Friday.
Senior goaltender Alexa Dobchuk continued her strong showing in the net for St. Thomas. Dobchuk recorded 39 saves in just under 60 minutes of work. In addition, the Tommies totaled eight blocks defensively.
