Good battle, but Women's Hockey comes up short, 3-1

Mankato, Minn. -- Tommie Women's Hockey hung close all afternoon but fell short here Saturday in game one of a weekend series vs. Minnesota State. The host Mavericks took a 3-1 victory.
St. Thomas (3-10 overall, 0-9 WCHA) received 27 saves from Saskia Maurer.
Maija Almich scored her team-best fourth goal six minutes into the final frame, but the Purple couldn't get closer.
MSU (6-7, 4-7) never trailed. The host team outshot the Toms 30-24.
Next Up
The teams close out the weekend and season series on Sunday on the Toms' home ice in Mendota Heights at 2 p.m. That will be St. Thomas' last game until Dec. 2.
