Women's Hockey cannot avoid conference sweep against St. Cloud

St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State masters the art of the penalty kill in dealing a fiery St. Thomas team a 4-0 setback on Saturday at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.

St. Thomas came ready in the opening period outshooting St. Cloud State for the first time in the series, 10-7. However, the problems on the power play persisted as the Purple could not capitalize on the second five-minute major against the Huskies in as many games.

Seventeen minutes into the period, St. Cloud turned a costly defensive-zone turnover by the Tommies into a one goal lead. Jenniina Nylund got just under the glove of Alexa Dobchuk for her second goal and fourth point of the weekend.

The Huskies got off to a much quicker start in the second period scoring just 52 seconds into the middle third. Dayle Ross's aggressive play on the forecheck and Bailey Burton's cross-ice breakaway pass led to a wide-open net for Klara Hymlarova.

Just under one minute later, the Tommies were back to a one-woman advantage after an interference call put them back on power play, the first of two second period special teams opportunities. Neither brought the Toms closer on the scoreboard.

Halfway through the middle period St. Cloud State's offense again broke through. This time, Emma Gentry got the puck by the Tommie netminder to make it a 3-0 game.

The Huskies added two more goals in the third period to shutout the Toms 4-0.
