10/28/2022 2:14:00 PM | Men's Soccer
St. Paul, Minn. - Tommie Men's Soccer (2-10-2 overall, 1-3-1 Summit) has a Saturday Oct. 29 home game vs. Lindenwood (3-9-1, 2-4) -- the first meeting between the two programs, both in transitioning into D-I. Game time is 11 a.m.
It will be Senior Day for seven St. Thomas players in their final home contest -- Devan DiGrado, Wes Lorrens, Jacek Nickowski, Jack Gleckler, Connor Askoz, McRay Drong and Isaac Eckroth. Gleckler and Eckroth and are the lone remaining players from St. Thomas' 2019 conference co-champion squad in its final complete season of Division III play before 2020-21's Covid-reduced season. The others transferred to UST after starting in other programs.
Opponent Watch
Carl Hutter has 40-plus years as a college head coach, the last 29 with the Lions, and is closing in on 800 all-time games, including 350-plus wins at Lindenwood. His first D-I team has only one senior with nine juniors, seven sophomores and 13 freshmen. The Lions have 2-0 and 2-1 wins vs. Southern Indiana; a win over Eastern Illinois; and also have four one-goal losses. They fell 3-1 to first-place Oral Roberts.
Tough at Home
St. Thomas has allowed just seven goals in its last eight home games dating back to last season. The Purple became the first St. Thomas Division I team to tie or beat a top-10 ranked opponent as they played powerful Denver to a 0-0 tie over 90 minutes on Oct. 8 at South Field. The last time No. 10-ranked Denver was shutout after getting 12 or more shots on goal was in 2004. This year's outcome avenged a 3-1 Tommie loss to Denver on the road in 2021.
