Women's Hockey hangs in but falls 2-0 to Mavericks

Mendota Heights, Minn. - Minnesota State broke open a scoreless game with goals 64 seconds apart early in the third period en route to a 2-0 shutout of Tommie Women's Hockey in WCHA action Friday night at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.
The Mavericks (2-6 overall, 2-6 WCHA) made few mistakes and got strong goalkeeping by Lauren Barbro (15-save shutout).
MSU closed out a series sweep. They also won 3-1 on home ice in Mankato on Thursday night.
Minnesota State outshot the Tommies 34-15 on Friday and 36-12 on Thursday.
The Purple (1-5, 0-4) received 32 saves by Saskia Maurer as they hung close all through Friday's game. They were outshot 17-10 over the first two periods on Friday and went into the locker room tied 0-0 after 40:00.
MSU had a 15-5 edge in shots on goal in period three. Brooke Bryant scored 2:57 into the final frame, and Kelsey King buried a breakaway chance one minute later for a 2-0 lead.

St. Thomas plays St. Cloud State in two conference games next Friday Oct. 28 (6 p.m. home) and Saturday Oct. 29 (2 p.m. away).
