Early surge carries Women's Hockey to win

Tommie Women's Hockey scored all three goals in a 5:01 span of the first period -- two by Leah Schwartzman -- and Kenzie Torpy stopped 23 of 24 shots as St. Thomas topped visiting UW-Superior, 3-1, in Tuesday night's non-conference game in Mendota Heights.
Eight different players scored a point for the Tommies (3-5-2), who were playing their first game since Dec. 3.
Superior (7-8) got an unassstsed goal 8:12 into the contest. But Schwartzman scored 36 seconds later, and Rachel Werdin scored a go-ahead goal 35 seconds after that.
UST is home Wednesday night to play UW-Stevens Point, then plays St. Mary's in two conference games next weekend.
