Senior Katie Jo Delisle allowed one run over four innings and hit a two-run homer as No. 16-ranked St. Thomas Softball ran its winning streak to eight with Sunday's 8-0, 7-2 sweep of visiting UW-Oshkosh.

Freshman Melissa Barry went 5-for-5 and raised her season average to .409 for the Tommies (35-5), who reached 35 season wins for the 15th time in 16 season under Coach John Tschida. St. Thomas has 26 hits on the day.

Senior Micaela Trainor slugged a grand slam in game two and closed the day with three hits and seven RBI. Trainor, who extended her hitting streak to 11 games, is 15-for-30 with 15 RBI in the Toms' current eight-game winning streak. In six wins over the last six days, she had 13 hits and 14 RBI and posted a 1.043 slugging percentage.

Junior Brenna Walek had a three-run homer in the opener, her 32nd career home run.

Freshman Kierstin Anderson-Glass allowed one hit and no runs over five innings in game one to improve her mound record to 23-4 and lower her ERA to 0.99. She struck out six with no walks.

Delisle (11-1 on season) went 3-0 over the last six days with 11 strikeouts and just two walks and one earned run in 18 innings.

Oshkosh (25-11) tied for second place in its conference and was receiving votes in the latest Division III top 25 poll.

UST senior Megan DuPuis has 101 consecutive putouts without an error at second base. In UST's eight-game winning streak, DuPuis has helped turn six double plays and cleanly fielded all 35 chances. Freshman SS Rachel Suter has just one error in her last 77 chances.

Women's Golf

St. Thomas finished second to Carleton by four strokes on Sunday in the final round of the two-day, 36-hole Carleton Invitational. Carleton (644), UST (648) and Gustavus (651) placed 1-2-3.

Rachel Morris (78-81) and Emily Thul (80-79) tied for fourth in a field of 66 players at 159. Marja Sorensen (81-83/164) tied for 14th; Erin Dingmann (85-81/166) tied for 20th; Morgan McCorkle (86-86/172) tied for 31st.

The Tommies will prepare for the May 10-13 NCAA Championship meet.

 

Men's Golf

St. Thomas edged Gustavus by one stroke in an 18-hole dual meet Sunday in Jordan, Minn. Nick Nielsen shot 73and tied for medalist honors to lead UST, which won 307-308.

Riley Gannon (77), Derek Farrell (78) and Pete Sienko (79) rounded out the UST scorers.

Owen Nowicki and Matt Radke also played as individuals and each shot 74.
