The Tommies have won 11 straight against the Phoenix

GREEN BAY, Wisc. – St. Thomas softball (29-13, 8-4 Summit League) stretched its winning streak over the Green Bay Phoenix (12-28, 6-9 Horizon) to 11 games with a pair of road wins on Monday afternoon at King Park.

Game One
St. Thomas softball opened its four-game trip through Wisconsin with a strong offensice showing, highlighted by a five-run first inning in a 10-4 win over Green Bay.

The Tommies struck early as leadoff hitter Avery Wukawitz reached on an error, stole second and scored on a Cassidy Carby single. With the bases loaded later in the inning, Kameron Monson delivered the big blow with a grand slam to give St. Thomas an early cushion.

Monson continued her standout performance throughout the game. The senior catcher threw out a runner attempting to steal to end the first inning, then added a solo home run in the third to extend the Tommies' lead to 6-0.

Mya Tautges set the tone in the circle early, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings before Green Bay broke through with a run in the third on two singles and a passed ball. The freshman right-hander limited the damage, stranding runners at second and third with an inning-ending strikeout.

Ella Cook drew her third walk of the game in the fourth, but the Tommies were unable to add on in the inning. Green Bay answered with a solo home run in the bottom half, but Tautges again worked out of trouble, stranding runners on the corners. Wukawitz helped defensively with an outfield assist, cutting down a runner at the plate on a tag-up attempt.

Monson collected her third hit of the game with a leadoff single in the fifth, though she was left on base. Green Bay capitalized with two runs in the inning to trim the deficit to two. Cook entered in relief to record the final out of the frame. Tautges (W, 4.2 IP) allowed four runs on nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

St. Thomas responded in the sixth with back-to-back home runs. Cook launched her 11th of the season, followed by Abbi Stierlen's seventh to push the lead to 8-4. Monson later added her fourth hit of the game in the inning.

The Tommies tacked on two more runs in the seventh on RBI singles from Zoe Trotter and Cook. In the bottom half, Cook worked out of a jam with strikeout to close out the game and secure the 10-4 victory.

Game Two
Ava Kleinfeldt got settled early, retiring the Phoenix through five scoreless innings to begin her outing.

The Tommies provided early support in the second inning. Abbi Stierlen led off with a double before Brier Blietz followed with a double to bring her home. Ruby Moore and Avery Wukawitz later loaded the bases, and Zoe Trotter drew a walk to score Blietz and give St. Thomas a 2-0 lead.

St. Thomas broke the game open in the fifth with a two-out rally. With the bases loaded, Moore delivered a single up the middle to score Miley Wichman and Blietz, who recorded her third hit of the game earlier in the inning. Wukawitz drew a walk to reload the bases, and Trotter added a two-run single to plate Moore and Maddy Freking, extending the lead to 6-0.

The Tommies continued to build momentum in the sixth. Moore delivered a two-run double to right-center field after Stierlen, Blietz, and Freking each walked to load the bases. Grace Nosan followed with an RBI single, and Wichman drew a bases-loaded walk to push the lead into run-rule territory.

Green Bay responsed in the bottom half of the inning to extend the game. A leadoff single, followed by an error and a walk, set up a run on a fielder's choice. A two-run single, aided by a second error in the inning, brought the Phoenix within striking distance. Green Bay scored four runs on three hits in the frame.

The Phoenix added another run in the seventh on a throwing error and later cut the deficit to three on a two-run home run with two outs. Ella Cook entered in relief and allowed a single before recording a strikeout to end the game and secure the 10-7 victory.

Up Next
The Tommies remain in Wisconsin but head west to Madison for a doubleheader with the Wisconsin Badgers tomorrow afternoon.
