Tautges goes six-plus innings, allows two runs
ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Thomas softball (34-17, 12-5 Summit League) closed out its 2026 regular season with a 4-1 loss to North Dakota (28-24, 5-12) in a tightly contested pitchers' duel Saturday afternoon at South Field. Mya Tautges delivered one of her strongest outings of the season, working into the seventh inning.
The Tommies struck first for the first time in the series, plating a run in the opening frame. The first three batters reached base before Ella Cook hit a sharp ground ball to third that resulted in a double play. Laken Lienhard crossed the plate on the play for the lone St. Thomas run.
Tautges held North Dakota hitless through four innings and carried a shutout into the fifth, when the Fighting Hawks broke through. The freshman finished with two earned runs allowed on three hits, four walks, and six strikeouts. Cook entered in the seventh after a leadoff walk and allowed two hits, including an RBI double and a two-run single.
Trailing 4-1 in the final inning, Zoe Trotter drew a one-out walk but was unable to advance as the Tommies went down in order.
With the result, St. Thomas secures the No. 2 see in the Summit League Tournament, avoiding the opening round of single-elimination play. It marks the first time the Tommies are eligible for postseason competition.
