Softball win caps 9-0 week in Florida

Tommie Softball scored a 12-9 win over Williams (Mass.) on Friday to cap a 9-0 week in Clermont, Fla. The Toms outscored nine Florida opponents by a 69-30 margin.
UST trailed 9-8 into its last at bat but three doubles and an RBI bunt helped post four runs. Megan DuPuis's two-run double scored the tying and go-ahead runs. Kiersten Anderson-Glass slugged her first home run in the fourth inning to start a seven-run uprising.
The Ephs (8-1) took their first loss of the season.
On Thursday, UST topped Greenville (Ill.), 12-4, and Wash & Jeff (Pa.), 8-2.
St. Thomas (12-3) will open MIAC play at home Sat. April 2 against St. Olaf.
Baseball
Tommie Baseball dropped a 2-1 decision to St. Norbert Friday in Winter Haven, Fla., as it had just two hits in the seven-inning game. Game two was rained out.
Cory Quinlan's RBI double in the top of the first inning was the game's only run into the sixth inning. UST starter Mitch Larson threw five shutout innings but allowed a single, hit by pitch and wild pitch to start the sixth. After a strikeout he allowed a two-run single that would be the deciding run. Larson struck out five and didn't walk a batter.
UST (5-2) has played six one-run games so far out of seven total in 2016. The Toms are scheduled to play Southern Mane and Keuka in single games on Saturday.
